Privacy policy
ScaleUp is a judgment-practice app for product managers. You read a real situation, you make the call, and the app shows you what actually happened. This page says what we hold about you, why we hold it, who else touches it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
It is written to be read. If a line of it is unclear, write to admin@scaleupapp.club and a person will answer.
Who we are
ScaleUp is run by SCALEUP LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES PVT LTD, Tin Factory, 78, Old Madras Road, Mahadevpura, Doorvaninagar, Bangalore North, Karnataka 560016, India. The product lives at scaleupapp.club. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 we are the data fiduciary for everything described here: we decide what is collected and what is done with it, and we are answerable for it.
You have to be eighteen
ScaleUp is for working product managers, and you must be eighteen or older to have an account. We do not knowingly hold anything about a child. If you tell us an account belongs to somebody under eighteen, we delete it.
What we hold
To let you in. Your phone number. That is the whole of signing in: we send a one-time code by text message and you type it back. There is no password.
Your name. The app asks for it when you join.
Because you chose to add it. A photo, a headline, a city, a goal, the role you are aiming at, your years of experience, your work history, your education, links to your own pages, and an email address. Each of these is optional and the product works without them.
What you do here. Your answers, how long each one took you, how each was marked, your Score, your coins, your duels, tournaments and contests, the weaknesses the product has found, and the cases you asked us to check.
What you say to the app. Your conversations with the Coach. If you speak to the Coach, your phone turns your speech into text, and only the text is sent to us. No audio is sent to ScaleUp.
What you send us. The messages you send from Help and requests: a feature request, a problem or a question, with the version of the app you sent it from. The feature requests you vote for, and the reports you make.
So your phone can be reached. A device token for each phone you have turned notifications on for.
To keep the game fair. A random code the app makes once and keeps on your phone, so that one person cannot quietly play as several.
No payment details. ScaleUp is free to use today, and we hold no card or payment details. A membership offered later will be paid through the App Store, and Apple holds those details, not us.
Why we hold it
- To run the product. Serve you the day's work, keep your history, and let you back in tomorrow.
- To compute the Score. It is the thing you came here for, and it is arithmetic over your own answers.
- To keep it fair. Checks that look for one person holding several accounts, and for answers or timings that cannot be trusted.
- To send you what you asked for. The notifications you switched on and, if you gave us an email address, an email about your own account, such as the link to a copy you asked for.
- To answer you. The messages you send us, and the feature requests on the board.
We do not sell anything about you. We run no advertising. We build no profile of you for anybody else.
Who else touches it
We use a small number of companies to run the product, and each of them sees only what it needs.
- MongoDB Atlas. The database your account and your work live in.
- Amazon Web Services. The servers, the file storage (your photo, and any copy of your data you ask for) and the emails we send.
- Twilio. The text message that carries your sign-in code.
- Firebase, from Google. The notification your phone receives, and a report when the app crashes.
- Sentry. A report when something fails on our servers, so that we can fix it.
- Anthropic, OpenAI and Google. The AI models that write the situations and the questions, answer you in the Coach, and check a case you asked us to check.
When you talk to the Coach, the model is sent your messages, your own answers and your record here. When you ask about a duel, it is also sent the first name and the initial of the last name of the player you faced. When you ask us to check a case, the model is sent the case and the note you wrote. Your phone number and your name are never sent to a model. Nothing you send from Help and requests is sent to a model.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Your account and your work are stored with MongoDB Atlas and Amazon Web Services.
Some of the companies named above work outside India, and the AI models are the clearest case. Nothing about you goes to any of them beyond what the section above describes.
- While your account exists, we keep your work. That record is what you are here to build.
- When you ask us to delete the account, it is deleted after seven days, unless you cancel before then. The deletion removes what we hold about you from every place it is stored, unless the law requires us to keep something. Your private messages to us and your votes are deleted. What stays names nobody: a duel another player played against you shows "A ScaleUp player" in your place, a finished contest keeps its places but not your name, and a feature request you posted stays on the board, still without your name.
- When you ask for a copy of everything, we make one. The app shows a link to it for twenty-four hours, and if you gave us an email address we email the link too. You can ask once a day.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- See what we hold. Ask for a copy of everything, from Your data in the app or by writing to us.
- Correct it. Anything you typed you can change yourself; anything you cannot, we will change.
- Erase it. Ask us to delete the account and we will.
- Withdraw your consent. For notifications, for sharing your Record page, for other players playing against your finished duels, or for the account itself. Withdrawing consent for something the product cannot run without means closing the account, and we will say so plainly rather than quietly carrying on.
- Complain. Our grievance officer reads admin@scaleupapp.club and answers. If we do not settle it, you can take the complaint to the Data Protection Board of India.
What other players see
Other players see your first name and the initial of your last name, never your full name. That is how you appear on a board, in a duel, a tournament or a contest, and in a notification another player receives. In some places they also see your photo, if you added one.
Other players can play against your finished duels, unless you turn that off in About you.
A feature request you post is shown to other players without your name. A request with a link, an email address or a phone number in it waits for a person to read it before it goes on the board. Any player can report a request from the screen it is on. We read reports within 24 hours and can remove a request.
Your public page
Every part of your Record page starts private. A part appears on it only after you choose to show it, and turning a part off takes it off the page at once. If you show your name there, it appears as your first name and the initial of your last name, never your full name. Nothing about you becomes public because you did not read a setting.
Cookies
The app and our public pages set no cookies. We show no advertising, and nothing in the app tracks you across other companies' apps or websites. Signing in uses a token the app keeps on your own device.
When this page changes
Each new version is published here with its number and its date, and the version you agreed to is kept exactly as it was.
